Banking on your interest

Credit it seems will be the next global plague and will affect the lives of millions. Driven by greed and exploited by a banking system that favours its shareholders, it capitalizes on us lending money to them as depositors.

The fundamentals are simple if we take this example. A bank has 1000 customers of which 800 hundred deposit their hard-earned money and never borrow from the bank. The remaining 200 customers and perhaps even a smaller amount, borrow heavily from the bank for mortgages, business ventures, vehicle finance etc. The bank utilises the funds of their 800 depositors which they have cleverly invested to advance monies to the 200 at exorbitant rates of interest while dishing out a very small percentage as a reward to the depositors for using their money. By over extending credit to the wrong people and/or for the wrong reasons, the bank faces many defaulters and more funds are utilised for many new businesses and ventures to recoup this. Ultimately this leads to the drying up of funds.

When the bank's depositors (the 800 mentioned earlier) get a whiff of danger to their money they make a bee line to the bank to draw out their funds. The bank doesn't have the funds and this situation has the potential to shake the foundation of the populace.

The government to restore confidence on the economy and send a positive signal to their population undertakes a hugely publicised bale out rescue package.

Here comes the crunch – who do you think funds the Government's generous life line to the banks? YES! The same old hard working 800 depositors as responsible tax payers.

But there is a viable alternative... Islamic Banking. Incorporating principles of Islamic law (the Shari'ah), that prohibits payment or collection of interest with transactions having to be backed by real assets. This form of baking has remained positive and is making inroads into the traditional Western interest-based banking systems markets.

There is huge interest in this worldwide with seminars and conferences held all over the world exploring its benefits.

The presentation of papers on Islamic banking at Halaal conferences and vice versa has become the norm due to its accord with Halaal (permissible), in its linguistic sense and is not just confined to dietary requirements in the life of a Muslim.

The conference is hosted by Islamic Dawah Movement (IDM), Islamic Development Bank(IDM) Jeddah, the internationally renowned Al Baraka bank group and the association of Muslim Lawyers and Accountants (AMAL) which is also an executive member of SANHA. For details and registration, click here

This event will give participants valuable insight into a Divine system with practical applications in the field of viable financial alternatives and is one that you cannot afford to miss.

We're banking on your interest to see this "interest-ing" concept for yourself.

HADITH
(Sayings and Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him)

A companion of the Prophet, Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrated:

I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) eat a piece of cheese then perform ablution (Wudhu). At a later time I saw him eat the meat of a sheep´s shoulder. He then performed Salaah without repeating his wuduu.

Commentary

In the early stages of Islam, Wudhu (ablution) became nullified after eating things cooked on fire. This law was then abrogated. It is possible that the first incident of the cheese refers the days when eating food cooked on fire nullified Wudhu (ablution).

The Messenger of Allah peace be upon him may also have repeated the Wudhu (ablution) for other reasons e.g. the virtue of repeating Wudhu, or the Wudhu may have been nullified through some other reason etc.

KNOW ISLAM SERIES

One out of every five persons on this planet is a Muslim.  He is your neighbour, customer, supplier, employee, boss or friend.

With the first ever election of an Afro American to the highest office in the USA, it is appropriate to echo the views of another Afro-American leader Malcom X. The following was his impression when he discovered the Universality of the message of Islam during his pilgrimage to Makkah.

"There were tens of thousands of pilgrims, from all over the world. They were of all colours, from blue-eyed blondes to black-skinned Africans. But we were all participating in the same ritual, displaying a spirit of unity and brotherhood that my experiences in America led me to believe never could exist between white and non-white. America needs to understand Islam, because this is the one religion that erases from its society the race problem... Islam removed the white from the minds of white skinned people. If white “Americans would accept the oneness of God, then perhaps they too, could accept in reality the Oneness of man- and cease to measure, and hinder, and harm others in terms of their difference of colour..."

MYSTERIOUS SPICE AND ALL THINGS NICE

Your discovery column of spectacular spice, fabulous fruit, incredible ingredient, vital vegetable, marvellous mineral and vibrant vitamin.

In the breadth of the range of foods available today berries too take their rightful place for both enjoyment and nutritional value.

We feature two "berry" good ones

Cranberries
These red berries are native and grown almost exclusively in North America. Valued for its vitamin C and anti-viral properties it has long been used as a traditional remedy for bladder, kidney and urinary tract infections, including cystitis.

Too acidic to be eaten raw it is used as a sauce. Commercially produced cranberry juice often has a high sugar content.

Strawberry
Recent research suggests that this could be amongst the leading fruits for protection against cancer. A 100 gram serving of fresh strawberry has only 27 calories yet supplies 7 mg of vitamin C which is more that the daily requirement.

The soluble and insoluble fibre in strawberry helps prevent constipation.

Health and Beauty

Look good - feel good. Tips for a sound mind in a sound body.

Don´t Stomach Poor Digestion

Tanking up with poor or the wrong grade of fuel gives cause to disastrous performance of your car and ultimately can lead to engine failure.

You will not do it to your car so why subject your body to this?

A number of ailments can be traced to incomplete digestion such as:- food allergies, diarrhea/constipation, haemorrhoids, abdominal discomfort, bloatedness, indigestion, candida , spastic colon, nausea, headache and migraine, malnutrition.

Good, wholesome and nutritious food digested properly with a healthy lifestyle including exercise is the key to your body giving you optimal "pain free" long service.

Allah Ta'ala has imbued certain foods such as pineapple and paw paw with qualities that boost your digestive process by the release of enzymes.

List of super ingredients for digestion:

Papain – is a proteolytic enzyme derived from papaya and aids in the digestion of proteins, fats and carbohydrates.

Bromelain –is a proteolytic enzyme derived from pineapple and aids in the digestion of proteins.

Cascara sagrada – acts as a colon cleanser and mild laxative. It also prevents parasitic infestation.

Fennel – the active ingredients in fennel, anethone and fenchone reduce bloating and act as anti-spasmodic agents.

Ginger - has calming effect, prevents nausea and vomiting.

Pectin - has a binding effect on nutrients and therefore prevents diarrhea. It also aids in the removal of toxins form the digestive tract.

Garlic - is a natural antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal agent. It inhibits the growth of Candida albicans. Garlic has been shown to inhibit the growth of H. pylori the bacteria responsible for the formation of ulcers in the digestive tract.

Fructo-oligosaccharide(FOS) - FOS is a pre-biotic and acts as a source of nutrients for natural intestinal bacteria.

Probiotics - are beneficial bacteria founds in the digestive tract. They are needed for proper digestion and also perform a number of useful functions, such as preventing the overgrowth of yeast and other pathogens, and synthesizing B-complex vitamins and vitamin K. It is advisable to use a probiotic during and after a course of antibiotics to ensure that the balance of beneficial bacteria is maintained at all times.

Help is also at hand by the use of digestive complex supplements approved by SANHA to assist your body in getting these valuable ingredients. Go to www.nativa.co.za for details.

Tell Us And We'll Tell The World

Hajee Dawood Sithole (RA)

Hajee Dawood Sithole (RA) passed away at the age of 58 on 18th October 2008 after rendering an unrepayable and sterling service to the Ummah.

Prior to reverting to Islam at the hand of Sheikh Ahmed Deedat at the age of 37 years, he studied and embraced the Shembe religion, later joined the Zion Church and was baptized in the Roman Catholic Church.

These experiences stood him in good stead when he joined the Jamiat of KZN. His fluent explanations led to many embracing Islam by Allah's grace.

He undertook translation of many books into Zulu. He also conveyed the Deen to the masses that resulted in several primary Maktabs being established in the Umlazi/Folweni area of KwaZulu-Natal, some of them by him personally.

This soft spoken soldier of Da´wah with his noble temperament, his muhabbat (love) for everyone else and his dressing in accordance to the Sunnah attire will be missed.

May Allah Ta'ala give him wish stages in Jannah, Aameen

Assalamu alaikum

Shukran for your regular newsletter which we enjoy reading
I notice that only SANHA is attacked by the Majlis in this chicken business. In a local Islamic newsletter of Port Elizabeth it says in black and white that mufti Desai approves of chickens at Nandos which I am told comes from rainbow.
The newspaper says that a Mufti Bobat of Madressa Inaamiyah in Camperdown who is also the Halaal inspector for the national independent halaal trust -NIHT- also approves it. I am told that this Mufti is also the chairperson of the Jamiat Natal Halaal Department.

I want to know why is the Majlis quiet on all this unless he has some sour grapes with Sanha.

Please continue with your good work and ignore troublemakers.

I.M.

Editor: Being attacked is one thing but when this is done without proof it is deplorable.

I DIDN'T KNOW THAT

Interesting "bites" to whet the appetite for knowledge.

On the 3rd of April 1968 a peace activist declared,
"I don't know what will happen now. We've got some difficult days ahead. But it doesn't matter with me now, because I've been to the mountain top. And I don't mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life; longevity has its place. But I'm not concerned about that now. I just want to do God's will. And He's allowed me to go up to the mountain. And I've looked over. And I've seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the Promised Land. And I'm happy tonight; I'm not worried about anything..."

A day later he was assassinated. Who was the activist? Dr Martin Luther King.

40 years later on the 4th of November 2008, Senator Barack Obama became the first black person to reach the position of President-elect of the United States of America.
