Yes! Right from inception SANHA has fiercely upheld the principal of transparency and accountability to the public it serves.

This is done through our open door policy, public talks, presence at exhibitions and fairs, newsletters and the all important, Annual General Meeting which is attended by the general public.

The Annual General Meeting is rotated annually between the home provinces of our offices, is well advertised in the Media and open to all without restrictions or conditions so that the public can witness the proceedings.  Financial statements are also made available to all attendees.

MYSTERIOUS SPICE

I am an item for whom men have gone to the ends of the earth, fought wars and I have become indispensable to the food industry.  You will find me in your home.  Do you know me?

  • I am from India, extremely pungent with a warm caraway-like taste.  I am from the ripe fruit of the Arethum graveolens plant and made available in whole and ground form.  I am very effective in cheese, chips, fish, sauces, French dressing, pickled beans, beet and meat.

I am DILL SEED

  • I am of European origin in abundance in France, Portugal, Greece and Romania.  I am the dried leaves of the plant Majorana hortensis with a mellow and slightly bitter taste.  I am perfect for chicken casseroles, liver pate (spread), herb dressings, stuffings, meat and fish.

You will be correct if you say I am MARJORAM

HADITH (Sayings and Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him)

Huzayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

When we attended a meal with The Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s salutations and peace be with him) we would never put our hands (in the food) until The Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s salutations and peace be with him) would put his hands and eat. Once we were attending a meal with him when a girl came as if she was being pushed. She wanted to put her hand on the food but the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s salutations and peace be with him) grabbed her hand. A Bedouin then came as if he was being pushed. He wanted to put his hand on the food but the Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s salutations and peace be with him) grabbed his hand.

The Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s salutations and peace be with him) then said, “Verily Shaytan considers food over which Allah’s name has not been mentioned to be lawful for him. He brought this girl to make the food lawful for him but I caught her hand. He then sent the Bedouin to make it lawful but I caught his hand. By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, verily Shaytan’s hand is caught in my hand with their two hands.”

He then mentioned the name of Allâh and ate.

Commentary:

We have obligations to others. It is not enough that we alone obey Allah’s commandments and abandon others to sin. The effects of the sin will reach us as well. In this incident The Prophet Muhammad (may Allah’s salutations and peace be with him) and his Companions were to partake in meals together.

They would all mention the name of Allah but had the Satanically influenced girl and Bedouin taken of the food without mentioning Allah, the blessings would have been lost. It is thus essential that we remind our associates of the requirements of Islam in general. Specifically from this narration we learn that each participant should remember Allah prior to eating. Many parents command their children to do this while failing to observe it themselves.

KNOW ISLAM SERIES

One out of every five person on this planet is a Muslim.  He is your neighbour, customer, supplier, employee, boss or friend.

Why does Islam separate men and women?

Muslim societies are required to practice gender segregation, the separation of men and women.  Thus in Masaajid and other Muslim venues, weddings etc. men and women have separate areas for prayer and/or seating. Strange men do not mix and intermingle with strange women except in very specific contexts and circumstances. (Strange / unrelated refers to persons between whom the possibility of marriage exists according to Islamic Law)

Gender separation has purely  religious origins. The Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) wives were told to keep themselves apart from stange men.  In the Quran it is stated, “O consorts of the Prophet! Ye are not like any of the (other) women; if ye do fear (God), Be not too complacent of speech, lest one in whose heart is a disease should be moved with desire; but speak ye a speech (that is) righteous.” (Chapter 33 Verse 32)

Verse 53 tells men, “…And when you ask (his wives) for anything you want, ask them from behind a screen.  That makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs.”  (Chapter 33 Verse 53)

Social interaction between unrelated men and women is regarded as potentially leading to immoral sexual activity.  Because modesty and chastity are prized virtues in Islam, Muslims therefore believe that unrelated men and women should  as far as possible, not have contact with each other.

Muslims believe that women are the culture-bearers of Islam, as well as the source of male honour. We also believe that the requirements of modesty can be met through appropriate dress and limitation of interaction with unrelated males.

SMILE AWHILE

In a serious world of Halaal we take this moment to bring you a smile, a chuckle or even a hearty laugh. It’s therapeutic, so pass it on:

A mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a Harley, when he spotted a world-famous heart surgeon in his shop.

The heart surgeon was waiting for the service manager to come and look at his bike. The mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey doc, can I ask you a question?"

The famous surgeon, a bit surprised, walked over to the mechanic working on the motorcycle.  The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "So, doc, look at this engine. I also can open hearts, take valves out, fix them, put in new parts, and when I finish, it will work just like a new one. So how come I get a pittance and you get the really big money, when you and I are doing basically the same work?"

The surgeon paused, smiled, leaned over and whispered to the mechanic, "try doing it with the engine running!"

Shukran

Ahmed I Bassa
