Organizers were pleasantly surprised by the turnout of one hundred and twenty guests at SANHA´s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Johannesburg on Saturday, 21st February 2009. This, despite short notice of the event.
Detailed presentations were made by the officials to the broad spectrum audience consisting of Ulama, community and business leaders. Amongst these, was the presentation of our audited financial statements in a spirit of openness and candour that prompted one invitee, Mr. Grant Hobbs, to remark, "Corporate South Africa needs more of this transparency."
Our esteemed guest speaker was the very eloquent scholar of Islam, Moulana Sulaiman Moola who enthralled the audience with his oratory skills and exposition on Halaal. His talk can be downloaded from our website www.sanha.org.za/downloads.php
A community citation award was presented to Moulana Yusuf Monia for his half a century of tireless and dedicated service to the community.
All the attendees were presented with a bound copy of the report, a few points of which we have summarised below.
SUMMARY
- Ulama (Theologians) make up 30% of the staff of SANHA thereby giving further strength to the directives of management.
- Associate membership by Muslim Jamaats, Institutes, etc. now stands at 130 under review.
- About 4500 inspections were undertaken in the period under review.
- Confidence in SANHA extends beyond the borders of the Republic. It is represented on three committees of the World Halaal Council and has presented papers at several international conferences.
- SANHA will host the 4th International Halaal Conference in Johannesburg during July 2009.
- SANHA e-Bulletin now reaches close to 55,000 subscribers. It has also been lauded for its role in increasing the understanding of Islam amongst non Muslims with its articles, books and slide presentation giveaways.
- The Halaal helpline is rendering a sterling service and fielded 39 000 queries in the year.
We ask Allah the Almighty to accept our humble efforts, Aameen.

Alhamdulillah Shukr Saturday was a most valuable experience for me, to say the least. Admittedly and ashamedly, the gossip about SANHA had forged my opinion of the organisation accordingly. But ALLAH SWT sent me to you on Saturday to rectify that. I now have a new appreciation for your organisation and all your efforts and intentions. I thank you for your invitation and commend your organisation for all that you do to protect the Ummah at large. May ALLAH SWT carry you from strength to strength Insha ALLAH.

A female companion of the Prophet, Umm al-Munzir Abdillaah (may Allah be pleased with her), narrated:
The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) visited me. His cousin and son-in-law, Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was with him. We had a bunch of dates hanging. The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) began eating from it and Ali joined him. The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him, "Stop O Ali, for verily you have been ill." Ali therefore sat aside while the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) continued eating. I prepared for them a dish of beetroot and barley. The Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) thereupon said to Ali, "O Ali, eat this. It is better for you."
Commentary
Mawlana Zakariyya Kandalwi comments: This proves that giving consideration to physical cause and effect does not negate belief and reliance upon Allaah. Al-Imaam al-Ghazzaali has discussed this matter in depth in his Ihyaa Uluumiddin. Whoever wishes for further clarification may refer to it.

One out of every five persons on this planet is a Muslim. He is your neighbour, customer, supplier, employee, boss or friend.
The main source of the Islamic faith is the Qur´aan, a book believed by Muslims to be of completely Divine origin, the last and final revelation. One can only marvel at the many clues of a scientific nature contained in it that supports this.
FINGERPRINTING
In 1880 fingerprinting became the scientific method of identification and is in world wide use today. No two persons on this planet including identical twins can ever have exactly the same fingerprint pattern.
This is what the Qur´aan has to say when unbelievers argue about resurrection.
"Does man think that we cannot assemble his bones?
Nay, we are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers."
Chapter 75 verses 3&4

Interesting "bites" to whet the appetite for knowledge.
China to build Makkah Monorail
1.8 billion dollar deal to construct monorail to carry pilgrims around Holy City.
China Railway Co won the deal to construct the rail link between Makkah and the holy sites of Mina, Arafat and Muzdalifah, which are visited by massive tides of pilgrims during the annual hajj, the state news agency SPA said.
More than two million Muslims come to Makkah each year for the pilgrimage.
The project is set to be completed over two years, but will be ready to operate at 35 percent capacity for this year's hajj, which falls at the end of November.
According to media reports, the project comprises four elevated tracks intended to carry up to 20,000 passengers an hour.

In the serious world of Halaal, we take this moment to bring you a smile, a chuckle or even a hearty laugh. It's therapeutic, so pass it on:
In this issue the submission of sister Z.M. of Durban looks at
"Conversations of the Married"
Wife: "What are you doing?"
Husband: Nothing.
Wife: "Nothing...? You've been reading our marriage certificate for an hour."
Husband: "I was looking for the expiry date."
Wife: "Do you want dinner?"
Husband: "Sure! What are my choices?"
Wife: "Yes and no."
Wife: "You always carry my photo in your wallet. Why?"
Hubby: "When there is a problem, no matter how impossible, I look at your picture and the problem disappears."
Wife: "You see how miraculous and powerful I am for you?"
Hubby: "Yes! I see your picture and ask myself what other problem can there be greater than this one?"
A newly married man asked his wife, "Would you have married me if my father hadn't left me a fortune?"
"Honey," the woman replied sweetly, "I'd have married you, NO MATTER WHO LEFT YOU A FORTUNE!"
A wife asked her husband: "What do you like most in me, my pretty face or my lovely figure?"
He looked at her from head to toe and replied: "I like your sense of humor
