(Sayings
and Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad
peace be upon him)
Jabir
bin ‘Abdillah (may Allah be pleased
with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace
be upon him) said, “He who eats
onion, garlic and leek should not come
close to our Masjid, for the angels are
distressed by that which causes distress
to humans.” [Muslim]
Comment:
When eating these pungent items raw or
not cleaning one’s mouth, the stench
discomforts both humans and angels. Consider
how strongly Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi
wa sallam detested these stenches, to
the extent that he prohibits approaching
Allah’s house in such a state. Now
consider that even if we ignore health
issues and the ingredients of cigarettes,
the least harm is its stench which is
worse than onion, garlic and leek. Smokers
become immune to the stench, but consider
how Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam
cared for people that he forbade harming
people even by bad odour. Love for Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam dictates not
merely criticising his enemies, but as
also having consideration for his desires.

Shakshuka
After
falafel and hummus, it is one of the most
popular Middle Eastern dishes with origins
from North Africa.
With
tomato and eggs as its main ingredients,
it is made and served in the frying pan.
Try
this version (serves six):
* 900 grams fresh tomatoes, unpeeled and
cut in quarters, or 2 x 400g can tomatoes
* 6 cloves garlic, roughly diced
*
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
*
1 teaspoon sweet paprika
*
2 teaspoons tomato paste
*
1/4 cup vegetable oil
*
6 large eggs
1. Place the tomatoes, garlic, salt, paprika,
tomato paste, and vegetable oil in a small
saucepan. Bring to a simmer and cook,
uncovered, over low heat until thick,
for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
2. Ladle the tomato sauce into a greased
12-inch frying pan. Bring to a sim¬mer
and break the eggs over the tomatoes.
Depending on preference some gently break
the yolks with a fork at this stage while
many prefer to leave the yolks intact
sunnyside up. Cover and continue to cook
for about 3 to 4 minutes, until the eggs
are set. Optional : Sprinkle with feta
and parsley.
3. Bring the frying pan directly to the
table. Set it on a trivet and spoon out
the shakshuka.

SMILE
AWHILE
In
the serious world of Halaal, we take this
moment to bring you a smile, a chuckle
or even a hearty laugh. It's therapeutic,
so pass it on:
Now
Hear This
Thank
you Sister Zohra for this wonderful piece
A man feared his wife wasn't hearing as
well as she used to and he thought she
might need a hearing aid.
Not
quite sure how to approach her, he called
the family Doctor to discuss the problem.
The
Doctor told him there is a simple informal
test the husband could perform to give
the doctor a better idea about her hearing
loss.
"Here's
what you do," said the Doctor, "stand
about 15 metres away from her, and in
a normal conversational speaking tone
see if she hears you. If not, go to 10
metres away, then 7 metres , and so on
until you get a response."
That evening, the wife is in the kitchen
cooking dinner, and he was in the den.
He stood about 15 metres away, and in
a normal tone he asks, 'Honey, what's
for dinner?"
No response.
So
the husband moves closer to the kitchen,
about 10 metres away from his wife and
repeats, "Honey, what's for dinner?"
Still
no response.
Next
he moves into the dining room where he
is about 7 metres from his wife and asks,
"Honey, what's for dinner?"
Again
he gets no response.
So,
he walks up to the kitchen door, about
3 metres away.
"Honey, what's for dinner?"
He hears nothing.
So
he walks right up behind her. "Honey,
what's for dinner?"
(Wait
for it....)
"Ahmed,
for the fifth blooming time, CHICKEN!"

Shook up – The Shakshuska

|
BACK |
One
out of every five persons on this planet is
a Muslim. He is your neighbour, customer, supplier,
employee, boss or friend.
The veil has been making the headlines with
several countries passing legislation against
it.
Does
the Bible and Qur'aan have any references to
it?
What
the Bible says
The women around Jesus (peace be upon him)
veiled themselves, which was also the practice
of the women around the earlier Prophets (peace
be upon them).
Genesis
24:64-65
“And Rebekah lifted up her eyes, and when
she saw Isaac, she alighted from camel, and
said to the servant, ‘who is the man yonder,
walking in the field to meet us?”The servant
said, ‘it is my master.’ So she
took her veil and covered herself.”
Corinthians
11:5
Paul wrote in this first book to the Corinthians
11:5; “But any woman who prays or prophesieth
with her head unveiled dishonours her head it
is the same as if her head were shaven”
What
the Qur'aan Says
"O
Prophet! Tell your wives and your daughters
and the women of the believers to draw their
cloaks (veils) over their bodies. That will
be better that they should be known so as not
to be annoyed…" (Qur’aan, 33:59).

| Q
- Is Corenza C Halaal?
A
- As per information at our disposal
Corenza C is Halaal suitable.
Q
- Is whey powder in an ingredient
Halaal? Is it of animal origin?
If there is a minute amount (eg.
0.5%) of this in a product, will
it be Halaal suitable?
A
- Whey Powder is a by-product of
cheese manufacture. As long as the
rennet, culture media and other
possible enzymes are of a Halaal
/ permitted source, the product
would be acceptable
If it is Haraam then no matter how
minute the quantity may be, the
product would not be Halaal.
Q-
Could you please advise if Trotters
Jelly is Halaal. It has gelatine
in its ingredients.
Manufactured by Pakco.
A
- In terms of information at our
disposal Trotters Jelly contains
gelatine derived from non Halaal
slaughtered animals and therefore
NOT deemed Halaal by SANHA.
