HUMBLE
BEGINNINGS
There
is no limit to what one can achieve in
pursuit of a noble cause if it is undertaken
with sincerity of purpose, humility and
no preoccupation as to who gets the credit
for its success.
This
lesson is underscored every time from
the lifetime mission of the perfect example
to mankind, our Prophet Muhammad (Peace
be upon him) to the everyday trials
and tribulations of dedicated organizations
and individuals.
From
the first revelation in the cave in Makkah
during this month over a thousand years
ago, and the instruction by Allah Almighty
to His Apostle of “Arise and deliver
thy warning” (Noble Quran –
Surah 74: Verse 2), the orphan child was
soon to deliver the message that reverberated
to the far flung corners of the world
where today over a fifth of mankind profess
to it.
From
humble beginnings our member organizations
too pursue their tasks with vigour and
dedication with programmes of social upliftment,
disaster relief, feeding schemes, education
etc.
SANHA’s
launch fourteen years ago from humble
beginnings to provide a unified Halaal
certified and monitoring service has resulted
in huge strides in the field of Halaal
for which we are grateful to Allah Almighty
and the community.
All
our programmes whether it was becoming
a founder member of the World Halaal Council,
establishing a national Halaal helpline,
offices in major centres, training programmes
for other certifiers, the website, this
Halaal bulletin and so on, follow the
principle of humble beginnings and sincerity
of purpose described earlier.
In
this spirit we wish to express our appreciation
to the large number of readers who wrote
in for our recipes and requested a recipe
column to be placed on the website.
We
encourage the practice of meals prepared
by ones own hands and served to family
in the tranquility and peace of the home.
Insha Allah, this will go a long way towards
entrenching that ideal.

(Sayings
and Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad
peace be upon him)
Hadith
Abu
Saeed al-Khudri (radiyallahu anhu) narrates:
"We
waged battle at the side of Rasulullah
sallallahu alayhi wa sallam when 16 days
of Ramadaan had past. Some of us fasted
and some did not. Neither did those who
fasted rebuke those who did not fast;
nor did those who did not fast rebuke
those who fasted." [Muslim]
Comment:
The Battle of Badr was fought on the 17th
of Ramadaan in the 2nd year of the Hijrah.
This was the first Ramadaan when fasting
was ordained. The 313 ill-equipped Muslims
faced 1000 fully-armed foes. Some Muslims
chose not to fast, as travellers are allowed
to delay their fast to another time. Others
felt strong enough to fast. Neither side
rebuked the other. The best of Muslims
respected each other’s opinions
even when they strongly differed. May
Allah grant us the ability to implement
such etiquette as well.

Interesting
"bites" to whet the appetite
for knowledge.
Second
Largest Building in the World
The
Royal Clock (pictured in the photo gallery)
sits about 400 metres high atop the central
of seven towers, each over 40 storeys,
in the Abraj Al-Bait Project, 50 meters
opposite al-Masjid al-Haraam) the Sacred
Masjid in Makkah. The entire complex will
have 3,000 hotel rooms operated by three
international groups and hundreds of apartments,
most of them designed to have a direct
view of the Grand Mosque. It will also
have a five-story shopping centre and
gigantic prayer and conference halls.
The
$3-billion project is part of the Saudi
government's plan to develop Makkah to
be able to receive as many as 10 million
Hajj Pilgrims every year, up from the
current three million capacity. At the
peak of the Haj the complex will accommodate
65,000 people.

SMILE
AWHILE
In
the serious world of Halaal, we take this
moment to bring you a smile, a chuckle
or even a hearty laugh. It's therapeutic,
so pass it on:
REST
YOUR CASE
A
farmer walked into an attorney's office.
“Assalaamu Alaikum, I want
to get a divorce."
The
attorney replies, “Walaykum
salaam, do you have any grounds?”
The
farmer says, "Yea, I
got about 300 acres of lovely flat land
with water and crops". The attorney
says, "No, you don't understand,
do you have a case?"
The
farmer, "Yes I have.
Not one but 3 cases. I bought the good
quality nesting Samsonite cases when I
went for Umrah. (mini pilgrimage)"
The
attorney says, "No you
don't understand, I mean do you have a
grudge?"
The
farmer looking a little puzzled, "Yea
I got a garudge, in fact I have a double
garudge where I park my Mercedes and the
Bakkie."
The
attorney says, "No sir,
I mean do you have a suit?"
The farmer said, "What
do you think I am. Attorney saab (sir),
just because you see me with this kurta
(long traditional outfit) don't think
I am cunjoos (miserly). I got a 3 piece
suit. I wear it on special occasions."
The
exasperated attorney said, "Well
sir, does your wife beat you up or anything?"
The farmer says, "No
sir, we both get up about 4:30 every morning."
Finally,
the attorney says, "Okay,
let me put it this way. WHY DO YOU WANT
A DIVORCE?"
And
the farmer says, "Well,
I can never have a meaningful conversation
with her."

The African Perception of Allah - The
Zulus
Notwithstanding
Africa’s diversity of tribes, cultural
patterns and the legacy of colonialism, most
of the Continent still holds true the concept
of Monotheism.
The Zulus of South Africa are a nation of 11
million people with a proud military history.
They sum up the attributes of the creator who
they call “Umvelinqangi”
as follows: - “Umvelingqange, umoya oyingcwele
akazali futhi akazalwanga, akhukho lutho olu
fana naye”
The English translation is “Umvelinqangni,
is a holy spirit. He does not beget nor is He
begotten. And there is none comparable with
Him”.
This is uncannily close to the message of Surah
Ikhlas (Purity of Faith).
“The
name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Say:
He is God, the One and Only! God, the Independent,
upon Whom all depend; He begetteth not nor is
He begotten. And there is none like unto Him.”
(Chapter 112 Verse 1 to 4.)

Your
discovery column of spectacular
spice, fabulous fruit, incredible
ingredient, vital vegetable, marvelous
mineral and vibrant vitamin.
Sodium
Bicarbonate
Known by many names such as baking
soda, bread soda, cooking soda
bicarbonate of soda or bicarb,
its uses are wide ranging i.e.
medical (antacids), cooking, cleaning
agent, personal hygiene (toothpastes)
and cattle feed supplement.
In baking, it has no leavening
properties but is used as a raising
agent when combined with an acid
such as cream of tartar, lemon
juice, buttermilk, cocoa, vinegar
etc. The release of carbon dioxide
in this process increases volume
and the tender eating qualities
of the product using it.

Look
good - feel good. Tips for
a sound mind in a sound
body.
Natural
Tips for Shiny Hair
Sun, wind, saltwater,
pollution and chemicals
are just some of the shine-depleting
elements your hair may
be subjected to on a daily
basis. They can strip
your hair of its natural
oils and create build-up
leaving it dull and lifeless.
Turn
to natural methods and
avoid those expensive
products and treatments.
Nature has the solution
to put the bounce back
into your hair.
Eggs Over Olive
Oil
Beat together two eggs
for short hair, three
for long, and add in three
tablespoons of olive oil.
Coat your hair from root
to tip and leave on for
30 minutes. Shampoo and
rinse. Eggs contain eleven
essential nutrients and
are packed with protein.
Combine them with olive
oil for conditioning and
nourishment and you have
one powerful duo.
Coconut
Craze
Warm three tablespoons
of coconut oil and gently
comb into your hair from
root to tip. Wrap your
hair in a hot towel and
let the oil sit for 30
minutes. Shampoo and rinse.
Loaded with antioxidants,
coconut oil works to smooth
dry and damaged cuticles
and lock in shine.
Life doesn't have to be
dull and neither does
your hair! It's time to
shine!
