"Meating" the National Needs

South Africans have over the years by the Grace of Almighty Allah (SWT) and the dint of the efforts of our forbears and elders, enjoyed reasonable availability of Halaal meat products nationally.

Although the Muslim population in South Africa estimated at about 1.7 million people is a minority, many establishments have implemented a Halaal program with SANHA and other certifiers to cater for this and other emerging markets who also demand food that must be Halaal, wholesome and good.

For your information, the following is the approximate number of livestock and poultry that is slaughtered annually at SANHA certified / approved abattoirs, placing an enormous burden on ensuring Halaal compliance.

  • Cattle : 1,631,500 million
  • Sheep / Lamb / Goats : 1,326,000 million
  • Poultry : 438,230,000 million
