Readers recall a Tony Naidoo´s circulation of an email entitled "Hoodwinked by
Halaal" falsely lambasting Halaal certifiers with innuendos and untruths.
He spoke on national radio on the 6th of March 2008 and a Muslim radio station where he denigrated Halaal
certification as "exploitive, basically dishonest, an outright scam and an evil practice,"
amongst many other cruel utterances.
1. Where is Tony Naidoo?
Despite giving him a sound drubbing on national radio, SANHA extended an invitation to Naidoo to meet with
us. Not only did he not take this up, but has failed to forward a physical address to us or our attorneys to
meet him. He does not have the courage to apologise or stand for his convictions, preferring to hide behind
the anonymity of an email address.
2. Failure to provide any evidence
Notwithstanding his claims such as "documentary proof of a ´four year longitudinal
survey´ that 80% of products purchased at supermarkets carry the Halaal emblem" and false
charges of funds derived from Halaal being channelled "to advance Islamic political causes"
he has failed to provide a single shred of evidence on this and his other allegations.

3. Contact with other Islamic bodies
In a divide and rule type of tactic to curry favours with some organisation and individuals Naidoo has
communicated with the Jamiatul Ulama of KwaZulu-Natal and the Port Elizabeth tabloid, the Majlis in this
matter. We wonder about the outcome of this contact of the strangest kind. And even stranger is the fact that
other bodies have chosen not to speak out against Naidoo´s attack. Their silence is deafening.
4. Will the real Tony Naidoo stand up?
Although claiming to be the chairman of a "fully-constituted national advocacy body campaigning to
bring to an end the manner in which Halaal is implemented in SA" his letterhead reflects his email
address as ccc@concernedchristiancouncil.co.za and his landline fax of 032 533-3802 carries the telefax
ID of "Jivannadi Christian School" Perhaps there is something more than meets the eye
here?
The ground swell of support from both Muslims and non-Muslims has been most
encouraging and in the spirit of the message of the Noble Qur'aan
where it is said in Surah 3, Verse 64
"Say: 'O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: that we worship
none but Allah; that we associate no partners with Him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and
patrons other than Allah." |
