EID UL ADHA - THE SACRIFICE FOR SALVATION

No.100
September 2015 : Thul Hijjah 1436

Muslims all over the world will celebrate Eid ul Adha (the Festival of Sacrifice) next week. This is in commemoration of the supreme trial that the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) underwent in executing the command of Almighty Allah to sacrifice his beloved son Ismail (peace be upon him). On receiving this command, he prepared to submit to Allah's will without hesitation or question. When he was about to implement the command, Almighty Allah revealed to him that his sacrifice had already been fulfilled. He had shown that his love for Allah Ta’ala superseded all others and that he would lay down his own life or the lives of those precious to him in submission to the Divine Command.

This teaching of Islam is so sacred and highly meritorious that those that have the means to undertake this act known as Udh-hiyyah or Qurbani (the act of sacrifice), should also fulfil it for the pleasure of Almighty Allah. It is preferable that the meat from the sacrifice be shared with family, friends and the poor. This symbolises willingness to give up things that are of benefit in order to follow Allah's commands and to give up some bounties to strengthen ties of kinship and help those in need.

May Almighty Allah accept our efforts in His way and allow us to reap the benefits of this blessed occasion by accepting all our sacrifices and the Pilgrimage of those brothers and sisters who were favoured to undertake the unique spiritual journey, visit His Beloved House, the Ka’bah and undertake the sacrifice in the Holy Land. May Allah grant them Hajj Mabroor and Maqbool (accepted Hajj) Aameen.

On behalf of all of us at SANHA, we extend our sincere good wishes of Eid Mubarak and peace. We pray that we will emerge reinforced morally and spiritually for the year ahead, God willing!
