Since times immemorial wars have been waged on our planet. Battles have been fought on wide ranging disputes of sovereignty, ideology, resources, ethnicity, religion and including one over a soccer match. Battles have raged from low intensity regional conflicts, civil wars to catastrophic world wars. The theatre of war have included battles on land, sea and air.

In man’s quest to inflict maximum destruction on the enemy he unleashes new weaponry of death in each era that surpasses the previous. Small arms, artillery, ballistic missiles, smart bombs, biological warfare and nuclear bombs all are worked on in peace time to deliver higher levels of mayhem during war.

Today, we face a new enemy, the likes of which has never been seen in our lifetime. An enemy that makes no declaration of war, masses no troops at borders, does not engage in combat under the rules of the Geneva Convention. In its voracious appetite for death and destruction everyone and anyone is a target. No one is immune from its tentacles. It is invisible, agile and works by stealth infecting you in a manner that you are unaware of. It enlists you by initially lying dormant within you so that you unwittingly perpetuate its spread to others you come into contact with. Royalty, sporting icons, presidents, government ministers, religious leaders, celebrities, the elderly, rich and poor have all been embraced in its tentacles.

This enemy is the dreaded Corona Virus, code named COVID-19 and is a most deadly enemy. In just a matter 90 days it has spread to 199 countries. It has infected about 800,000 people, caused 40,000 deaths and placed 1.8 billion human beings in a fearful lockdown.

HOW WE CAN WIN THE WAR

For our survival and preservation of our way of life, there is only one option - to win at all costs. Our lives depend on it. 

A tsunami of information on every aspect of COVID – 19 is published by the minute offering valuable information on social distancing, personal hygiene, medical contact information etc. which is easily accessible.

The following is our further advice in the matter:-

1. STRICT ADHERENCE TO THE RULE OF LAW
   
   Government has implemented measures for the safety of all citizens. These measures have been taken in consultation with local and international advisors and specialists. Play your part. Abide strictly with all their instructions. Disobedience is unpatriotic, illegal and placing others including your family in danger.
   
   
2. SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE
   
   Follow the advice of your Ulama leadership on spiritual matters. These will accord and not be in conflict with government directives on issues such as prayer at the Musjid (mosque), funerals etc.
