Meating the Change
In the history of the evolution of man and our planet, change has always been the constant. Ideas, events and actions directly or indirectly cause change. Many of the changes are evolutionary that we accept by becoming accustomed to them but there are those revolutionary changes that we adopt as it requires radical action.
The year-long COVID 19 pandemic that engulfed the world resulting in the deaths of over 2,3 Million fellow human beings brought in drastic changes never experienced in our lifetime. Lockdowns, temperature screening, wearing of masks, sanitising and social distancing for work, prayer and leisure became the order of the day. So too we had to adapt to new ways of working, conferencing, schooling remotely, shopping for grocery and ordering prepared meals online for delivery to your door.
What never changes in the evolution of life is the principle of sustenance of life. Consumption of food is intrinsic to sustaining life. We have to eat to live. Allah, Most High and All-Knowing as Creator of man and provided the food needed for man’s sustenance. Furthermore, through His Word in the Noble Qur’aan and the teachings of the Messenger (peace be upon him), prescribed what we are permitted to eat (Halaal) and what is forbidden (Haraam). "...for he (the Prophet) commands them what is just and forbids them what is evil; he allows them as lawful what is good (and pure) and prohibits them from what is bad (and impure)..." (Surah 7, verse 157)
Within the dietary requirements of Halaal, meat ranks as the most critical and crucial. Stringent requirements are laid down on animal welfare, humane slaughter, transporting, processing and sales.
